I was a co-founder of Bio-Energy Systems, in 1976, which went public as Besicorp, Inc. in 1981. I was co-inventor of the SolaRoll® solar energy system; Secretary, Empire State Solar Association, '79-'81; on the Trade Committee of the Solar Energy Industries Association, '80; and US Delegate, First World Congress on Alternatives and Environment, Vienna, Austria, '79.

Locally, I published The Ellenville News, '83-'84, was Ellenville Rep for the Ulster Environmental Management Council, and served on the Ellenville Historic Preservation Commission, and on the Ellenville Economic Advisory Committee. I served as Secretary and as 2nd Vice President of the Ellenville Noonday Club service organization, and was Editor of the Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce's monthly print and online magazine, Wawarsing.Net from 2002 through September 2005.

My commitment to the environment, community empowerment, social and economic justice, and decentralized democracy led me to publish Green Light News, '83, and Gandhi Today, '86, and to attend the First North American Bioregional Congress (a precursor to the Green Party) in 1984.

In 2000, I chose to register with the new Green Party of New York State, and, further, to work actively to support the Nader campaign in Ulster County. I was a co-founder of the Ulster Friends of Nader, published a daily e-mail campaign update, and helped organize events and produce literature and ads. I acted as a contact person for the Nader campaign and the Green Party in the Wawarsing area, and served as a poll watcher for the Green Party on Election Day.

This led me to begin the initial organizing of the Wawarsing Greens, and to consider even MORE active involvement as a Green in Ulster County. In 2001, I became a Green Party State Committeeperson for Ulster County, and ran my first-ever political race, for Ulster County Legislator in the new District 1. I ran on the Green, Democrat, and Independence lines, and got more votes that year than any Green running for any office in New York State. In 2002, I was elected Secretary of the newly-formed Ulster County Committee of the Green Party. In 2003, I again ran for an Ulster Legislature seat in the newer-still District 1, AS a GREEN, running with cross-endorsements on both the Democratic and Independence lines.

In 2004, I ran for Ellenville Village Trustee on the Democratic and Clean Sweep lines; the whole team won, making it a true "Clean Sweep."

I'm proud to be among the first Greens to WIN election in New York State, and this has allowed us to forge cooperative alliances with progressive Democrats and others who seek more environmental protection, political and electoral reform, more participatory democracy, social and economic justice, and more responsive government.

In 2004, I was again elected a Green Party of New York State Committeeperson for Ulster County, and was then chosen by my fellow SC Reps in the Catskill/Mid-Hudson Region to represent this region on the Party's Executive Committee, and, then, by the Executive Committee to serve as Deputy Treasurer. I am also co-Chair of the Party's Web Committee. In September 2005, I was selected as the Catskill/Mid-Hudson Region Alternate Delegate to the National Committee of the Green Party of the United States, the highest decision-making body of the Green Party. In October 2005, I became the National Delegate when the previously selected delegate stepped down.

In 2004, I joined the Museum Advisory Board of the Ellenville Public Library & Museum, and the Village of Ellenville's Bicentennial Committee. In 2005, I was elected to the Steering Committee of Sustainable Hudson Valley, an educational, advocacy, and facilitation organization concerned with sustainable development, alternative energy and green building, future-oriented economics and jobs, and local empowerment in the Hudson Valley.

In 2005, I was re-elected Ellenville Village Trustee for a two-year term on the Democratic and "Clean Sweep" lines (yes, I'M still a Green!), becoming the first Green in New York State to win RE-Election to municipal office.
